power leveling guide for Pokémon GO!

Here are some tips to help you level up quickly in Pokémon GO! Whether you just started playing, or you want to out level your friends the most common way to power level is to get the most out of your Lucky Eggs.

Step 1: Collect Pokémon with low cost evolutions.
Every Pokémon you capture will provide you with 3 candy. Many common Pokémon will only cost you 12 – 25 candies to evolve. The best common Pokémon in my area are Caterpies, Pidgeys and Weedles. All take only 12 candies to evolve! Rattatas are also very easy to find and only require 25 candies to evolve. So, catch these guys in complete excess. BUT DON’T EVOLVE THEM YET! Just mass collect them for now.

Step 2: Try to use your Lucky Egg right before a high km egg is ready to hatch.
Once your lucky egg is active walk the remaining distance you need to go to hatch your egg. 2km = 200XP, 5km = 500 XP and 10km = 1000XP but if you have a Lucky Egg active you could earn an extra 1000XP.
While your Lucky Egg is active now is the time to evolve all of the Pokémon you are able to. Since each evolution will earn you 500 XP, every evolution you do while the Lucky Egg is active is worth 1000 XP.

Remember: It is more efficient to use your candies on a low level Pokémon than evolving a mid level Pokémon. Evolving 4 Pidgeys costs 48 candies and earns 2000 XP (4000 XP with Lucky Egg), while evolving 1 Pidgeotto costs 50 candies and only earns 500 XP (1000 XP with Lucky Egg).

But I want quality Pokémon over quantity!
Don’t waste your time fighting, or worrying about having pokemon strong enough to fight. XP and your level are KING. The CP of the Pokémon you find is based on your current level. With that said, until you reach level 15 or 20 trying to generate the strongest Pokémon you can will prove futile in the long run. And once you reach a higher level the basic Pokémon you find will be around 400 CP, and you can evolve them into BEASTS! So while it may seem counter intuitive to go for more low level Pokémon it will work out in the end. At the beginning XP is your ONLY focus.

Step 3: Lucky Egg time is valuable.
To get the max value from a Lucky Egg you will want to hold off on using one until you have enough candies and Pokémon  to evolve them for close to 30 minutes. Use any remaining time on your Lucky Egg to catch ALL the Pokémon and stop by all of the Pokéstops in the area since the Lucky Egg double XP bonus applies to all of these.
